Now that I've been retired for a while, I've decided to clear out some of my "stuff".
So I am offering this antique "Shur-Stop" glass Fire Grenade.
Years ago, before the mechanical fire extinguishers we know and use today, these were quite commonplace.
The instructions were to "THROW AT THE BASE OF THE FIRE" . Typically, they were mounted near any possible fire risk area & when the heat from the flames melted the small connecting metal on the frame, the globe would fall, burst, and hopefully extinguish the fire.
Thankfully, these are no longer the norm today!
This glass "Fire Grenade" is in excellent condition and even has the extinguishing fluid intact in the globe!
Here are some specs as I see them:
- Length: (including frame) 7-1/2"
- Width: 3-3/4"
- Liquid: Unknown (Salt water?)
- Globe material: Glass
- Condition: Excellent (In my humble opinion)
The tag on the front is embossed with the words "Shur-Stop" with "REG. U.S. PAT. OFF." under that.
The tag on the back appears to have had the same type of tag as on the front, but is now missing.
All-in-all, this "Fire Grenade" is in great condition, and would make a great addition in anyone's collection!
Please take the time to study the photos, as these are of the exact item offered here.
